I hope everyone’s week has been great so far, and you’re killing the work game! I know throughout some of my blog post I’ll talk about books that I love or ones with a theme that relates to my post! I thought, why not just create a list of my favorite personal development books and share it?! Here are my Top Six reads, and a short synopsis of each one. You can click on the link provided with each one if you feel you need to read it!
Toni’s Favorite Reads
Code of the Extraordinary Mind by Vishen Lakhiani
This book is focused on the brain and how enormous the amount of storage it has, in reasoning and its cognitive function. We are led to follow previous traditions of familial generations or to follow the trending rules that are set by society. Lakhiani provides a structure of ten laws to help to break free from that. By ignoring how you were programmed to think, creating your own tenacious mindset, and then how to use those new mindsets! Most people wish to be extraordinary, but how do you do that? You must go beyond the “culturescape,” that you’ve come to be comfortable in.
The 10X Rule by Grant Cardone
Grant Cardone is one of the top sales trainers and is a great business owner. He explains in this book how anyone can achieve success, just by following one rule, the 10x rule. It’s founded on the fact that success is much harder to reach than everyone anticipates it to be. An example is when one looks back at what they have accomplished in the past, they remember that they always had to put in more effort, tenfold. Say, you want to meet ten new people in a week, now aim for one hundred people. Cardone encourages that instead of aiming for the latter of possibilities, you should be reaching for the sky!
Wooden on Leadership: How to Create Winning Organization by John Wooden
John Wooden was one of the best UCLA basketball coaches. He led many national championships based on his core beliefs about teamwork. He emphasizes that in order to reach the kind of success you’ve never had before, you must endure a complete makeover, internally. Re-training your mind, the way you think, and making that switch from negative to positive, are key points. Your character is the first thing people will see about you, and it should be a good one. Wooden is about giving your all, and how you act during the “game,” you play is the same way you should be acting off of that court. Whether you lose or not, get that bonus or not, you ask yourself, “How can I do better?”
Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod
This book is about the importance of every single morning. What time do you wake up in the morning? What is the first thing you do when you get out of bed? The majority of millionaires, business owners, competitive athletes, etc. wake up in the early hours of the morning. For Elrod, it’s not just about being an early riser, but also creating a morning routine, based on six activities. He refers to Rearview Mirror Syndrome, which means you make decisions based on your past, which is what the majority tend to do. You limit yourself by hitting the snooze button. Motivation Manifesto by Brendon Burchard
I live daily with the ideas and themes in this book. One of the main points that Burchard gives is to live by motivation. In other words, think about why you decide to get out of the bed in the morning and get ready for the day. What makes you set your alarm to wake up for the next morning? Motivation. His point being made is that you must have a strong “why,” in order to have that “deep motivation.” He leads his life through manifesting-to make a deliberate promise to find purpose and going after the things that you want.
These are all great books to read for growth and personal development. By reading my personal synopsis of each, I hope I helped explain each book without giving away too much! Each is great in its own, but whichever one jumps out at you or catches your attention the most, try a new read. These kinds of books can be great for reading after dinner by your fireplace, with your book club, something to keep you busy between the action, while at your kid’s sporting event, etc. There’s always so much you can do to improve yourself, and reading is a big part of that!
